Trump says attacking Moscow would not be the right thing for Zelensky
He made the remarks after a Financial Times report said Trump had personally encouraged Ukraine to intensify its attacks on Russia.
The Financial Times reported yesterday, citing several people familiar with the discussions between the US and Ukraine. Trump asked Zelensky if he would be willing to attack Moscow if the US provided Ukraine with long-range weapons.
Yesterday, reporters asked Trump about the matter on the South Lawn of the White House. The US president then said, “No, he (Zelensky) should not attack Moscow.”
Last Monday, Trump announced a tougher stance against Moscow over Russia’s three-year war in Ukraine. He promised to provide new missiles and other weapons for Ukraine. He gave Moscow 50 days to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine. Otherwise, he threatened sanctions.
European officials have become active after Trump’s announcement. They are thinking about how to implement Trump’s plan and how to ensure the necessary weapons for Ukraine.
On Tuesday, Trump told reporters that some Patriot missiles are already on their way to Ukraine. They are coming from Germany.
Trump said that he has not yet spoken to Putin about his announcement. But he thinks that it may take 50 days or more to make a deal.
Earlier, Trump was asked whether he is now on behalf of Ukraine. In response, he said, “I am not on anyone’s side.” Then Trump claimed that he is on behalf of humanity. Because, he “wants to stop the killing.”
